Today’s bit of President Bush failing to recognize irony when he’s giving a speech comes from the recent CPAC event.
Bush: “Peace And Prosperity” At Stake In Election – Politics on The Huffington Post
WASHINGTON — President Bush, rallying conservatives for a battle against Democratic presidential hopefuls Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, says “prosperity and peace” are at stake in the upcoming election for his successor.
“We have had good debates and soon we will have a nominee who will carry the conservative banner into this election and beyond,” Bush said in prepared remarks of a speech he was to give Friday to the Conservative Political Action Conference.
“Prosperity and peace are in the balance,” the president said in speech excerpts the White House released on Thursday night. “So with confidence in our vision and faith in our values, let us go forward … fight for victory … and keep the White House in 2008.”
The man responsible for five years of war started under false pretenses and an ever burgeoning and record breaking deficit has the gall to imply that if a Democrat wins the election then peace and prosperity will be in danger? My irony meter doth asplode!
I’m surprised he didn’t mention the mushroom cloud that Cheney threatened would occur if Kerry was elected in 2004.

Wow, spam!
I keep joking with DOF that Bush’s speech writers are just laughing their asses off at the shit they get away with.
I wonder how long it will take for the other non-Conservative Republicans to jump ship now that it’s clear that Republican doesn’t (and won’t likely mean in the near future) “small government” and instead means “kills black people/hates homos/pray or die?”
cliche time: the stupid…. it… BURNS!
can I have my new president now?
Back in 1995 I was at my union conference, and after a few beers a group of us came up with “Quote a Queen Lyric in your speech”, and proceeded to spend the rest of that night spreading the idea around the other delegates, with the promise of a free pint for the best.
Imagine my surprise the next day when phases such as “under pressure” and “I must be going slightly mad” were forced into speeches. I believe that some actually managed to get a line from Bohemian Rhapsody in. People were coming up to me after- people I had no idea who they were- going “Did you hear it?”
Perhaps they do the same kind of thing in the West Wing- each writes a line on a piece of paper, and draw them out of a hat. “I bet you cant get him to say that” “$20 says I do”.
But then most of your exports do come from abroad.
I could totally see that. Especially since most of the White House is filled with ol’ Frat Boys.
BOOM! Dammit! I just bought that irony meter after the last time he opened his mouth. Science damn you to the pits of Analytical Chemistry, George Bush!
My irony meter is an old slide rule. No capacitors or internal circuitry, so it can’t explode. Your head does that, after reading the result you calculate with it.
Plenty of Republicans still rant about “tax and spend Democrats,” so I don’t see why Bush wouldn’t think that he could get away saying such nonsense.
But the ends can be broken off, dof. I know- it’s a repeating logrithmic scale, so you shouldn’t have to go off the end. But Bush’s inanity is beyond logs, and my old Keuffel and Esser is in pieces on the floor.
Luckily, I still have an old circular slide rule…
What? Peace and Prosperity are at risk? Quick – bomb the fuck out of Iran.
