I was going to post this yesterday before we left for the day’s activities, but the wonderful folks at Charter decided to give me a birthday gift of taking the entire state of Michigan offline so they could upgrade their digital equipment. It was back up right about the time we stepped out the door.
This did not bode well for the rest of the day, but it turns out that was the only bummer thing to happen. The 40th Birthday LAN party went pretty well and I had quite a few folks show up to spend the afternoon with me. In addition to good food, including a great carrot cake, we sat down and fragged each other old-school style on Starcraft, Warcraft II, Command and Conquer, and Quake II.
I was originally planning on sitting down and writing an insightful post filled with my observations on life and turning 40 years old, but then I realized I don’t have a lot of insights about either. I’ve noticed that I catch myself spotting my own reflection in windows and such more often and the guy that’s looking back at me seems a lot older than he should be, but otherwise I’ve not a whole lot to say about turning 40.
So happy birthday to me. With any luck I’ve got quite a few more to go and perhaps I’ll have something more pithy to say in the future.
I catch myself rethinking a few things every decade or so, but I can’t remember what if anything I changed any opinions on.
Oh, and happy birthday!
Happy Birthday Les…
I wish I could be 40 again…Still pretty young if you ask me.
Happy Birthday…belated….from an occasional commenter…and steady lurker.
Happy old day!
Many happy returns of the day, Les! And welcome to the 40-club—the club where true wisdom begins
40 seems far away for me, but when I get there I’m sure I’ll look back and wonder what the fuck I did with my time.
Wow, the originals… that brings back some memories! BTW, if you’ve never tried Carmageddon at a LAN party, I highly recommend it.
Happy B-Day!
Always a day late and at least a dollar short, I am still glad to tell you Happy Birthday and have a great year ahead!
P.S. I think 40 is not so bad. It’s 50 that I’m more worried about
Happy Birthday!
ps. I had to try submitting a few times. The site doesn’t seem to want my comments. So if you are wondering why more people didn’t post, that might be it.
Happy 40th!!!
One would think the pace of change might slow down, but no.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I forgot to add Diablo II to that list of games. We started with that one.
Todd, I’ll check into it and see if I can figure out why you’re having trouble with commenting. As a registered user it should be a smooth process for you.
Commenting’s been a bit sluggish in the last day or two…
