Iran’s Supreme Leader: Don’t masturbate during Ramadan
On his blog, Sayyid Ali Khameini offers advice to the faithful about appropriate conduct during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
- Q: “If somebody masturbates during the month of Ramadan, but without any discharge, is his fasting invalidated?”
A: Iranian Supreme Leader: “If he do not intend masturbation and discharging semen and nothing is discharged, his fasting is correct even though he has done a ḥarām (forbidden) act.
But, if he intends masturbation or he knows that he usually discharges semen by this process and semen really comes out, it is a ḥaram – intentionally breaking fasting.”
Meanwhile, Joe asks;
- The Ramadan fast is only from sunrise to sunset. Does this mean it’s OK after dark?
We are anxiously awaiting a reply, not only to the question of doing it in the dark but also the part about “intent!” ……… Allan
Ramadan, and much is Islam, is about a communal and personal jihad against animalistic/physical urges. Eating, smoking, drinking, jacking-off, etc. are all about fulfilling physical desires. Ramadan (like many fasting-traditions Semite cultures) is about learning to deny these urges in the context of a communal struggle (jihad).
I think denying these urges for a period is a good excercise for any wise human.

This might help clear things up:

So, it sure don’t matter when the sun is up, or down, or whether it’s Ramadan, or not. ;-] That said, the issue of mastrubation is fairly non-sequitor to the whole event, given it’s forbidden status. It’s curious why a mullah would think it necessary to elucidate this fact to the umma. Sounds like Western gibberish/misreading, imo.

So, how can you masturbate “without intent”? ? ? Let me count the ways: Tight underwear? Someone else masturbating you while you sleep? That’s all I can think of. Any more suggestions?
How about when one hand doesn’t know what the other is doing!
I guess it takes more effort than just a good bump when seated on the back of the bus for a guy?
In the same way one can murder without intent, or flatter/insult someone without an intent. This notion of “intent” is hardly new to law. Intent, actually, is a *huge* factor in most legal systems, such as Shariah. And, if i remember correctly, many consider it a hallmark of an advanced social code.
For example, children (and animals) jack-off all the time. But, doing so doesn’t mean they understand what they are doing.

Between Melbourne and Adelaide about 40 years ago there was a 1/2 hour stretch of corrugated black top Mrs SEB woulda died for.
It’s only now I realise why the girl with me in my Beetle looked forward to returning to Melbourne on it.
Some dots take a lo-o-o-o-ng time to join.
Oh man, I just Googled masturbating Muslim and it is a hoot. Look at the bullshit some people toil with:
Wow, and I thought my life was complicated. Well I’m going to jerk off now, guilt free mind you.
Craig
You know, I never would have thought to google “masturbating muslim”.
I wonder what what happen if you googled “syphlitic priest”?
That’s sick. I’d rather google “fellating nuns” or “fucking baptist bishops”
Obviously Muslims take a more realistic view of masturbation than the Holy Roman Catholic Church who say: Stop it or you’ll go blind.
I wonder if there many blind men (or women – nah – they’ve been surgically modified) with in the Muslim Kultcha?
billions
I meant physically blind … not mentally.
