Buffet style Bible thumping.

You know, I just love this buffet-style bible thumping.  We wander through the buffet, pick out the bible verses that fit our needs at the moment, and bypass the rest of it…maybe we’ll try that one on our second pass through.

Some moron was arguing Leviticus today as the prevailing argument against homosexuality.  I pointed out that Leviticus preaches against eating shellfish, too, but that doesn’t stop the resident fundamentalist idiot against preaching against homosexuality while enjoying all you can eat shrimp at Sizzler.

I am a “bastard” child; my cousin, who is a “Born Again”, told me that there is no reference to bastard children in the bible.  I am the last person you want to take a biblical argement up with, so I found a few for him:  Rev. 2: 22-23, Hosea 2:4, Ezekiel 23: 45-48, Deut. 23: 2, Zech. 9:6, Hebrews 12: 5-8 and Judges 11: 1-7.
Some people’s kids…

  1. My fav has always been the Deuteronomy 23:2 one.
even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.”
Didn’t the coming of Jesus and his dying for our sins cancel that one?
Oh, wait on – xians follow the Old Testament much more closely than the new one, don’t they?
It’s got me fucked as to how they’ve been able to reconcile all those Jewish texts with their historical hatred of Jews. Yeah, I know – major mind manipulation.
Yes, ‘buffet-style bible thumping’ – ‘tis apt.  wink

  2. I spent enough time in church, and have read the Bible enough to get the take-home message, which I’m sure is lost on almost every Christian I’ve ever met.

    Matthew 22:36-40
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love he Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

I think all of Christianity can be summed up in this verse, and if you’re really a Christian and you live like this, you can throw your Bibles away.  No cherry-picking needed.

  3. I suppose we can dream.

Did you read where this LDS guy is thinking of running for president, and James Dobson is coming out in support of him?  Dobson has stated more than once that all mormons are going to hell, yet since they share the same “values”, he will support this guy…

Ah, nothing like the scent of fresh hypocrisy to get the mind going!
