I’m sure it can’t be too hard to find video footage of Christian prayers or hymns including phrases like ‘I would die for God’ and find footage of Christian protestors screaming at whoever it is they decide is evil that day. I was missing captions that I feel should have been there for the Christian footage.
As it is, they’re comparing a riotous minority of Muslims with the majority of very happy and not very scary American Christians.
It just doesn’t seem to be passing on the message I believe was intended by the video’s creator.
I had the same impression, MH; some of the darts landed off the board. Also, it gives the impression all Muslims are murderous haters (though I do have a bone to pick with the ‘silent majority’ of Muslims who supposedly oppose terrrorism).
I have in my briefcase a newsletter from an old friend of mine (we studied Greek together) who opines; “In case you don’t know… and why should you, since it’s politically incorrect to say it out loud… Islamic fundamentalists are the group that breeds terrorists!)”
But if you replace ‘Islamic” with ‘Christian’ and ‘breeds terrorists’ with ‘makes cruise missiles and cluster bombs’ it probably looks a lot alike from the other side. We’ve killed a hell of a lot more of them than they have of us. Some people are really very proud of that proportion.
Sometimes I wonder if they’re really there.
But, probably, they too have been forced to accept a version of Bull$hit’s ‘you’re either with us or against us … and if you’re against us, it means you’re with them’ by their team leaders.
Yeah, I’m sure that’s right. When I read stories about barbers being killed in Iraq because they give short haircuts, I have to admit I wouldn’t necessarily be slapping a “Give peace a chance” bumpersticker on the ol’ ride.
Pretty happy to be living where I am. And, trying to be vigilant so we don’t go down that road.
MH and DOF: the exact same thing came to my mind when I saw this video. I like the point it makes, but it kinda pisses me off when people use Islam as the shinning example for radical fundamentalism. There are plenty of Fundamentalist Christians, even some in the US, that have done some horrible things in the name of God. And I am pretty sure those quotations of the Muslim Children are all bullshit too, but no one can know since you cannot hear what is actually being said.
We have nothing to compare to the Madrassas of Pakistan, Webs. Those children are probably saying pretty much what the translation says.
I agree with Webs, MH, and DOF—the video fails (miserably) to make its point because while it claims to subscribe to reason, it does not use a reasonable illustration of the dangers of Christian fundamentalism to balance its points about Islamic fundamentalists. If the worst thing Christian fundamentalists did was lay ‘healing’ hands on little old ladies, we’d hardly be worried about it.
It’s a shame, really. I do agree with parts of the message.
