I had my interview with my contract house this morning for the internal project they’re hiring for and, boy, is it a doozy. This was my first time to the new world headquarters building and it was a bit of an eye opener. I’ve always known that the company was of a decent size and had offices in various places around the world, but the world headquarters building drove the point home. I hired in through a smaller branch office and after four years of dealing mainly with that office seeing the size of the HQ managed to come as a surprise.
The interview lasted two hours and I think it went pretty well. It’s clear to me that I’m weak in some of the technical areas they’re looking for, but I’m very strong in the customer relations/people skills that they also need so I’m hoping that my strength in the latter and my eagerness to learn new skills will combine to offset my weaknesses elsewhere. The job itself sounds like a great opportunity as well as being very cool. I’m really very excited about the possibility and the experience it’ll give me. This could end up being a big door opener if I can land it. They’re interviewing with the goal of getting people in place sometime in March so it could be anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks before I hear back one way or the other and they’re just getting started as I’m only the third or fourth person they’ve interviewed. If they’re interested in hiring me I’ll go back for a second interview with the entire team and a VP before a final decision is made.
So, overall, I think it went very well and I’m hoping it works out in my favor, but it remains to be seen. Either way I went in and gave it my best shot and all I can do now is wait and see.
Good luck! I hope that you get this job.
Keeping My fingers crossed for YA!

Best of luck, Les. That job sounds pretty damn fine.
I won’t say “I’m rooting for you”, ‘cos rooting has another *ahem* definition outside the U.S.
