I didn’t think they would ever find any W.O.M.D., but they have…

I was so cocky and arrogant in my belief that they would never be found, how embarrassing that our government was right. Now I am so happy that Bush led us to war with Iraq since I now know that you just cant trust those lying, scheming, evil…Americans?!?

The good news for the Pentagon yesterday was that its investigators had finally unearthed evidence of weapons of mass destruction, including 100 vials of anthrax and other dangerous bacteria.

The bad news was that the stash was found, not in Iraq, but fewer than 50 miles from Washington, near Fort Detrick in the Maryland countryside.

You know it is bad enough that the most we have found in Iraq has been a couple of empty buckets, some “mobile labs” that most likely produced hydrogen for weather balloons, and a handful of junk buried under a rosebush that may have some use in their nuclear program and where do we find the justification for toppling a regime (at least according to Bush Co.)? Right in our own back yard.

Now I know that this find does not indicate that the U.S. government was involved, rather a “disgruntled” former employee. But what about this next bit of info?

The US germ warfare programme at Fort Detrick was officially wound up in 1969, but the base has maintained a stock of nasty bugs to help maintain America’s defences against biological attack.

I admit I am no Virologist or Bacteriologist but how does maintaining a stockpile of biological weapons increase our DEFENSES against biological attack? Wouldn’t, oh I don’t know, a stockpile of immunizations and prophylaxis against said weapons be more apt to defend us from them? Maybe I’m crazy but if the enemy douses me with Anthrax I do not see how sprinkling me with Botulin is going to help. And if a disgruntled employee gets his hands on the antidote for Anthrax I doubt that is going start showing up in our mail.

  1. Reminds me of my book “How To Spot A Card Cheat.” They are very clear that all the techniques they show you are to be used only in spotting someone cheating you, and certainly not [gasp] to be employed one’s own self!

  2. I just think it is ironic. If the same vials were found buried 50 miles outside of Baghdad by a former Ba’ath government employee then the story would almost certainly be that Saddam directed the man to HIDE those weapons. Of course here in America we assume that our government is not corrupt enought to, for example, use a former employee to whip up public paranoia and fears of terrorism by allowing him to obtain dangerous substances to be employed against the citizenry. I mean, that’s just plain crazy.
